Gun Deaths in US Have Reached A Record High- Maya Friedmann

Last year, nearly 40,000 people in the United States dies by guns. Gun deaths have reached a record high since 1979, the year firearm deaths started to be coded in mortality data. Firearm deaths in data include suicide, homicide, unintentional deaths, deaths in war or legal intervention, and undetermined deaths. Nearly 109 people died every day from gun violence in 2017. The issue of gun violence in America has gotten so bad that it has become a public health epidemic that needs a public health solution.
This article was written to inform people about the recent statistics relating to the issue of gun deaths. The fact that this problem has gotten so bad and so little has been done about it is extremely shocking to me. It shouldn’t be okay for 109 people to die a day from something that could be prevented. It is unacceptable that anyone would let this happen and hopefully some change happens in the near future.

  1. Ever since the 1999 Columbine High School shooting occurred, gun violence in America has seriously spiraled out of control and needs to be put to an end. I agree that 109 people dying everyday because of gun violence isn't okay.
