Siobhan Crummey- Nazi Themed Posters Found Up Around School Campus

https://www.cnn.com/2018/12/10/us/nazi-posters-suny-purchase/index.html

This week, several posters were found around State University of New York with strong Nazi themes. They were found on the last night of Hanukkah, an obvious hate crime against the Jewish community at the University and in the area. They are saying the suspect of these posters has been identified, and actions are being taken to reprimand him and all those involved. Numerous people are involved in handling the situation, including the vice president of the student affairs club, the district attorney, and the governor of New York, Andrew Cuomo. The governor has directed the state police hate crimes unit to assist with the investigation.

This relates to history because many hate crimes like this have been done in the past, just like the KKK using voter intimidation on the black voters in the south. The audience are schools across the country and anyone who wants to know how to take care of this hate crime properly. The purpose id to inform and declare what happened with the posters and how it was handled. The point of view was CNN so I believe it to be true. This is important because hate crimes like this shouldn't still be happening in the 21st century much less in a safe place like a school.

  1. This is an absolute outrage for someone to put up nazi posters on Hanukkah. I can’t imagine the thought process that goes into someone deciding it’s acceptable to make people scared in their own skin on a day so sacred to them, no less. It makes me glad to know that the state of New York has taken such speedy actions against this type of despicable behavior.

  2. I wrote about the same thing and this is really terrible because not everyone can express their beliefs or anything anymore without being harshly criticized . - Alma Alvarado-Cabrera

  4. Thank you for bringing attention to this topic. It really made me realize that racism is still on the surface and who knows if it'll ever change.
