Olivia Moretta: Young Cancer Survivor Commits Suicide

Eleven year old Bethany Thompson was first diagnosed with cancer at the young age of three, when doctors discovered a tumor in her brain. She endured radiation treatment, and after her long battle she was finally deemed cancer free in 2008. Although she kept her life, she walked away with severe nerve damage that affected the left side of her face, causing it to droop. This was the cause of relentless bullying among her peers and on one particularly rough Wednesday, Thompson told her friend that she'd had enough and that she planned to take her life. Within minutes of her arrival home, she found one of the two guns kept in the house and shot herself.

Bullying has always been an issue. Even now in modern times, where tolerance and diversity have made huge strides, people are still so ignorant. Children as young as eleven years old have the power to potentially take a life with their words. This incident can be tied to the incident in Florida, 2013, when two girls ages 12 and 14 were arrested for bullying a girl to death.
