Sarah Childs- Boys Survived Jump, Dad Didn't

Summary: Around 8 p.m. at Wanaque River in northern New Jersey Monday night, John Spincken and both of his little boys stood at the edge of the Interstate 287 overpass 100 feet above the frigid water. Then, a miracle occurred. The young children, ages 1 and 3, both survived the fall! Sadly, they are now left without their 37 year old father. The police claim that he died in an "apparent suicide Monday". "When the officers found the children conscious and alert, it was nothing short of a miracle, that's for sure," said Captin Christopher DePuyt of the Pequannock Township Police Department at a news conference Yesterday. Why would such a father do this? In a Pequannock Township for a domestic dispute call, officers were told that a woman had just argued with her husband and that he had threatened to take their boys and cause harm to them. Then, he took off with her boys in his car. When law enforcement found him next, he was literally sleeping with the fishes.

AnalysisThis article was published by Max Blau, Chandrika Narayan and Sheena Jones at CNN which shows just how meaningful this miracle really is. CNN is a very reliable source that I trust and do not believe that they put any bias into this article. It was published on October 26, 2016 which shows how much time these speedy people put into this article. Additionally, I did not have any knowledge of this subject before I read this article. This affected my view on this issue because I did not have any bias. After reading the article, I believe that domestic violence is a very serious issue and we all need to be aware of how hostile these people are. Maybe we should start ha ring mental checkups now at our doctors offices or another source of regulation for this. This investigation can synthesize to a the mentality of terrorism during 9/11. Al Qaeda and Bin Ladin brainwashed people into forming such a suicide pact to destroy our peace of mind and many families. This is a much more personal story of this mentality but it still impacted one family forever.

  1. I love the synthesis that you gave about how one incident can change the mentality of someone's life. I agree that domestic violence needs to be taken seriously.

  3. Domestic violence occurs so often in our society but is often overlooked by most. Luckily the two boys are safe.

  4. It's great that the two boys survived the fall, but I would like to know what caused the father to do such a thing. I completely agree with you, and domestic violence is a big problem in our society that needs to be fixed.
