IRS Impersonators Accused of Stealing Millions from the Elderly by Macey Kanaman 8th Period

Summary: There have been many cases of people being tricked into paying large amounts of money to the "IRS". These impersonators have been traced back to India where they are pretending to be IRS agents. They have stolen over 300 million dollars. Many elderly people and immigrants were manipulated into handing over money due to fear of possible deportation. Luckily, these impersonators will be charged.

Analysis: This is a very scary situation. Who knows how many times this has happened before and gone unnoticed. I am synthesizing this to when Britain was manipulating the colonies into giving them money, known as mercantilism.  In the same way, these people were manipulated into paying amounts they were not supposed to pay due to fear. As the colonies were probably in fear of Britain pre-American Revolution. Thankfully, the impersonators will not go without punishment and the the colonies won the American Revolution.

  1. Wow this is really sad. It takes a very heartless person to steal from the elderly.

  2. This shows how we need to be careful in regards to scams. It can happen to anybody. Also, it is a little unnerving how the government has not noticed this earlier. I would think that we had more security than that. I hope that this results in security reform.
