Izzy Brown- Nurse Settles Ebola Lawsuit

Summary: Texas nurse, Nina Pham, contracted ebola while treating a patient. She accused the hospital of not properly equipping her to treat ebola. Even after wearing a mask and gloves, she still caught the disease. When she was diagnosed she was assured that it would be okay and that she could freely see her friends and family. Pham indicted that the hospital did not follow proper protocol for the ebola case. She also filed claims that the hospital violated her privacy by displaying information about her condition without her consent. Pham is hesitant to return to her field because of the blemish this incident has created for her.

Analysis/Synthesis: Because of this hospital not following proper protocol they put a staff member's life in danger and possibly damaged her career as a nurse. Ebola used to never be a huge concern in the U.S. before 2014, but it only took one person to slip up. Thankfully there wasn't a huge outbreak, nonetheless people still freaked out about it. Because this disease is very intense it should be treated on the same level; no one should handle this disease lightly. Pham should not have fallen victim to others' mistakes since her job is to solely save others. Another infamous outbreak for an infamous disease was the Polio that began in 1916 and ended 1955. It was a serious issue and caused 3,145 deaths.
