Kate Pinkerton - Junko Tabei, first woman to climb Mount Everest, dead at 77

Summary - Junko Tabei was a Japanesse climber. She was the first woman to climb mount Everest. She was 35 when she successfully climbed the mountain in 1975, which is the tallest in the world, at 29,000 feet. She had also climbed the Seven Summits- which are the highest mountains on each of the seven continents. Mount Everest, like all mountains, are very hard to climb because of the extremely cold temperatures and lack of oxygen. She died of cancer in a hospital in Japan.

Analysis - The fact that a female has climbed Everest is very inspiring. As someone who has climed mountains before (only half as tall) I know how hard and strenuous climbing is. It is very dangerous because of the extreme conditions at such a high altitude. The fact that she continued climbing even into her old age is crazy. This proves that men and women are both capable of doing the most difficult tasks and humans are amazing. And to think that just a century ago women didn't even have the right to vote. This can be synthesized to another recent event in which for the first time a woman did something- our first female presidential candidate for a major party.
