Boy wakes up from Coma speaking a new language- Camryn Stafford

summary:
Reuben Nsemoh went into an intense comma after he got kicked in the head last month. Even though he worries about whether or not he will get to play again, the bigger issue is that he woke up from his coma speaking fluent Spanish.  Although his english is returning, his parents told CNN that he was never fluent before the concussion. Nsemoh's coach now advises that  all goalies should wear helmets in the future.

analysis:
Doug Criss, from CNN wrote this article, which means that there is no bias or favor in any direction. In history, some things may be exaggerated when they are explained because of historians from different backgrounds or the lack of a direct source. However, since this was article was written with previous occurrences backing it up, it is easier to believe. Although I had never heard of this happening before it was really interesting and I am interested in reading more in depth about this condition. This occurrence in 2016 can be synthesized to the first occurrence of the condition in 1941 when a Norwegian women, who suffered brain injuries during a german bombing run, started speaking in a german accent.

  1. I'd like to think that this foreshadows the possible discoveries in medicine to come. This is a great example of how big of an effect the world around us has on our minds, conscientiously and subconsciously.

  2. Usually when someone wakes up from a coma speaking a different language, it's because they were fluent in two and lost the second language they learned to speak. Its pretty cool that with person woke up gaining the ability to communicate with people he may not have been able to before.

  3. This is really interesting but depressing at the same time because what if he's not able to speak with friends or family

  4. Its kind cool to think about but is probably quite terrifying in reality to no longer be able to communicate with your loved ones. I hope he regains ability speak English.

  5. Whoa, this is crazy. Even though the concussion is a traumatic experience to go through, it's crazy what our brain holds in our subconscious that we're not aware of. Maybe this will lead to new discoveries that help us understand what goes on during a concussion?

  6. My heart goes out to this boy, this is an insane situation and I hope he will be able to communicate with his family and friends very soon. Foreign Accent Syndrome is a extremely interesting thing to me and also how the brain operates and how much more unknown things we can discover about it.
