The Luster uses 151 bottles of water a day. The water bottles were then sorted into categories. 36 were used for washing hair, 27 for drinking, 24 for doing dishes, and the rest for washing their face and brushing their teeth. That how much a family of three uses everyday. The average American uses about 100 gallons of water everyday. The family had switched its water resource from the lake Huron to the Flint river. The Luster family started noticing that the water started having a different taste. It started tasting like medicine. Then the mother fell at her job. Luster, the daughter, was scratching herself till she bleed and losing chunks of her hair. Her niece was getting rashes all over her body. More than a year later they started seeing big changes in their health. They decided to stop drinking the water. Later they found out the water contained lead in it. She decided to switch and use bottled water for everything.
I found this very sad. A family of three was just trying to survive, but got sick on the way. This article reminded me of when the small pox broke out. The disease killed and made many people sick.

The crazy thing is, it isn't being addressed or treated as a priority that these people get the help they need. This will be something our kids read about in textbooks and wonder why we did not do more to help.
