In Wake Of Brussels Attack, A Look At Other Cities Recently Hit By Violence- Tori Gilchrist, 1st period

The world is grieving over the terrorist bombings that happened in Brussels, the capital of Belgium. Two bombs went off inside an airport, causing ceilings to fall down, glass shattering everywhere, and water pipes breaking open. One other bomb exploded on an underground metro. When this bomb went off, the train was alarmingly close to the headquarters of the European Union, located in Brussels. ISIS has claimed responsibility for all three bombs. So far, sources say that over 30 people have been killed and over 100 injured. Five other similar tragedies have occurred in the last ten days in Africa, the Middle East, and Turkey. The worst of these was an airstrike in Yemen that killed 119 people, 22 of which were children.

All of the attacks were targeted at civilians, and many were in underdeveloped/developing countries. The victims of all the attacks were innocent people going about their regular lives. Unfortunately, the US has committed atrocities like these in the past. In the Vietnam War, American troops used excessive force to scare and gain control over North Vietnamese civilians. Bombs were dropped across Vietnam and Laos, killing an estimated 2 million people. This shows that the horrors of war are universal, and as a leading country, we should set an example of peace for other nations to follow.
