Adriana Hinojosa, 8th, The FLOTUS Empowering Girls!

At the beginning of Obama's presidency, he was criticized a lot for thinking of himself as a celebrity rather than being concerned with more important issues. But I think that it is vital for a president and his family to be well-liked by the general people of the country. Also, Michelle Obama has done an incredible job of not standing idly by her husband but has instead been very vocal about issues that concern not only her but the entire country. She took advantage of South By South West and the amount of people that would be there to talk about a very important issue that is the inequality of girls. Celebrities used their fame for a good cause and spoke alongside our FLOTUS telling personal stories and delivering powerful performances. I just think it was really great for Michelle to do this especially in an unexpected setting like this. It has proven difficult for women to be half as respected as artists as men and so when taken into account, the setting isn't that unusual. While political figures should be respected for the position they are in, it is important to remember that they are also people and to connect to them is necessary. Queen Latifah moderating the 2016 SXSW Music Keynote discussion with Sophia Bush, First Lady Michelle Obama, Missy Elliott, and Diane Warren.

  1. I agree, I think she's doing a great job of staying vocal and immersing herself in the people to help and be of aid.
