Child Accidentally Shoots Himself - Isabella Montague 5th period

In Georgia, a two year-old got a gun from his mother's handbag and accidentally shot himself in the stomach. He is in surgery in critical condition. The article also states that in 2015, 13,399 deaths in the United States that were caused by firearms, and 3,300 of those people were under the age of 18. The article also states that Anerica is very divided over the issue of gun laws.

This is a very sad story, but unfortunately it isn't uncommon. Gun violence is very prominent in the United States, and apparently more parents want their children to start using firearms at a younger age. When the Constitution was created on September 17, 1787, it gave the right to bear arms, and many Americans are very defendant about that part.

  1. I still don't understand how some people read stories like this but still believe that stricter guns laws are unnecessary.

  2. I feel so bad for this family, but at the same time, why was the gun in such close reach of a two year old child?

  3. I agree with Shelby; I feel many people who are in vote of lose gun laws haven't had the experience others have dealing with guns, and probably not children for that matter (though it would be wrong of me to make assumptions). This seems to be one of those cases where someone probably isn't going to decide on a change like that unless some related incident happens to themselves or someone else they love. :(

  4. That;s so sad but why did his Mom have a gun in a hand bag where the child could get to it. That's ridiculous
