After taking Stephen Harper's place, Justin Trudeau was sworn into office in November and Obama quickly granted him one of the highest honors the U.S. reserves for close allies. "Trudeau, accompanied by his wife, Sophie Gregoire, will be feted Thursday at a sparkly state dinner, the first of Obama's final year in office and the first for Canada since April 1997." Stephen Harper's relationship with Obama was strained over issues such as the Keystone XL oil pipeline, so Obama was very happy about Trudeau's election.
I am glad that Trudeau was elected because this will improve our foreign relations with Canada since Obama and Harper had been through some issues. Hopefully this partnership will spark better foreign relations with more countries.
