Judge Jack Weil states that he has taught immigration law to 3 and 4 year olds and they have understood it well enough to defend themselves in court. He claims that migrant toddlers can do the same. This is in reference to the large numbers of migrant children coming to the U.S. and the introduced legislation that would get attorneys for the children. It is proven that attorneys in immigrant cases increase the chances of the person being able to stay in the U.S.
I have no idea why this man is trying to say that toddlers can defend themselves in law when some kids aren't even potty trained at that age. This was the craziest thing I had ever heard of. Why can't they all just get lawyers?
This relates to every time in history where a kid could not be a kid because they got caught up in some political scheme of adults. Syrian refugees, Jewish holocaust survivors, Japanese interment camps, kids fleeing Afghanistan and the middle east, slave children in the early U.S., the girls in the Birmingham bombing, all times where a kid couldn't be a kid.
Judge Jack Weil is not the brightest light bulb in the box if you couldn't already tell and even if he was "teaching" them law, would they even be able to speak up and say that they do or don't understand what he is trying to explain to them? I'm not trying to question the children's intellect but there are things at a certain age that you shouldn't be required to know.
