No Mo Polio by Imani Williams p5

India has long been the country with the highest polio rates in the world, producing over half of the documented cases in total. In 1988 a campaign was launched to rid the globe of polio in its entirety. Everyone thought, researchers included, that India would be the last county to banish polio from its people, but contrary to the seemingly solid evidence, they were wrong.

Just a while back, the last case of polio in India was documented. A little girl just over the age of one. She has become the poster child for their successes despite economic and logistic troubles. This is worthy of a huge celebration! Polio is in my opinion one of the worst things that could happen to anyone......ever, but it could all be prevented with something as simple as clean water. Something many of us 'muricans take for granitite. Actually, there was a huge polio outbreak right here in the 1950's and '60's, probably contributing to the many clean water plants we have placed around the country.

  1. It's so great to hear that there will be no more polio cases in India! I also hope that the little girl gets the treatment she needs.
