Microsoft Being Generous by: Taylor Grant-Gates

Microsoft is giving $100 to any person that is still using the 13-year old Windows XP system. The major catch is that you have to upgrade to a new Windows 8 computer. You can redeem your credit at a Microsoft retail store or Microsoft's online store (subject to verification). The offer is good for PCs ranging from $599-$2,299 and will run until June 15th. The promotion is part of Microsoft's plan to get the remaining Windows XP users off the operating system before the April 8th, end of life date. After that, the system will no longer receive security updates. The latest figures show that 30% of Windows users use Microsoft XP, and only 10% (which is a growth) of the users use Windows 8.

This is a very smart way that Microsoft has come up with to get users to switch. It also seems expensive, but I am sure that the $100 will be used for something else Microsoft has to offer to the user. Overall, I believe that this is a good strategy that Microsoft has proposed. Hopefully there won't be a lot of people to wait past the deadline.

  1. Wow, I can't believe they're doing that! I don't know if I would do that if I were one of the users of Windows XP. Many people are likely to be unwilling to change after so long, even with the incentive.

5th period I think this is very smart and funny. The $100 hopefully would be put to good use.
