Madison Ceurter 5th period: Washington Landslide: 8 dead, 108 missing

In Seattle, Washington there was a severe landslide that affected many homes and people.  There were many people that were missing, eight people dead and seven hurt.  The landslide covered about one square mile and was caused by groundwater saturation tied to heavy rain in the area over the past month.  The Firefighters that were rescuing the missing people had to be careful because the landslide was like quicksand and it was 15 feet deep.  The people that were missing were shouting until someone heard them because they were under debris or mud.  Some mud was too thick for the firefighters to rescue them, so they weren't able to save those people.  In the end 6 houses were destroyed and 16 were damaged.  This Landslide must have been so scary and looking at the pictures of it just makes you wonder how someone could be stuck under there for that long and survive.  I feel so bad for the people that were stuck under there and the people that were never rescued.  I hope Seattle and the small towns of Oso and Darrington can recover from this.
