McKenzie Hartmann -Outbreak in Guinea - 4th period

Recently there has been an intense outbreak of the ebola virus in Guinea.  Of the 80 reported cases, 59 people have died from the highly contagious disease.  The symptoms first presented themselves about a month ago, leaving medical officials baffled and unprepared to deal with an epidemic this swift and severe.  The virus attacks in groups of cells and affects multiple organ systems in the body.  Medical officials have advised people not to panic and to take reasonable precautions to ensure they aren't contaminated.  Additionally, people have been asked to report every case and volunteer to go into isolation units once diagnosed to ensure the illness doesn't spread.  As of now, copious medical supplies have been flown in and officials are working their best to treat everyone freely and efficiently.

This is really scary.  There are five different types of the Ebola virus and it is incredibly dangerous.  Were a malady like this to turn into a world epidemic, it could turn into a modern day Influenza Pandemic of 1918, mainly due to how lethal and contagious the virus is.  Fortunately medical officials in Guinea now know what they are dealing with and are now receiving supplies and aid from organizations like UNICEF to combat the illness and prevent it from spreading.
