Felicia Padilla 5th period "families notified about flight"

The family members of the passengers on board Malaysia Airlines Flight 370  were notified by airline officials today that their family members would not be found. Families have been waiting 17 days for news.
Officials believe the plane plunged into a remote part of the Indian Ocean. This announcement of course resulted in anger and sadness. When a fight broke off, 50 police officers had to step in. Many people exclaimed that they believed the government was hiding something, and their family members had not died.
"Jacquita Gomes, the wife of the plane's chief steward Patrick Gomes, tearfully told ABC News that a Malaysia Airlines representative showed up at her house today, where media cameras were parked outside, to tell her the news."
This is the message many received from the airlines. Some even received this in a text message.
"Malaysia Airlines deeply regrets that we have to assume beyond any reasonable doubt that MH370 has been lost and that none of those on board survived," it said. "As you will hear in the next hour from Malaysia's Prime Minister, we must now accept all evidence suggests the plane went down in the Southern Indian Ocean."
Minister Najib Razak, the Malaysian prime minister held a press conference and announced that new satellite data revealed that missing Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 "ended" in the south Indian Ocean.
The jet vanished on March 8 with 239 people on board after it took off from Kuala Lumpur bound for Beijing.
This is awful. I think the families should have been notified in a more personal way, rather than over text message, and then their reactions might have been a tad more calm. However, they do have every right to be upset.

  1. I agree that they could have delivered the messages in a more appropriate way. I can't imagine hearing the news that these family members heard and the devastation they are suffering.
