A disabled man, a heinous crime- Madison Russell

The victim of a surprising crime was never named. Bob Greene, the author of this article, did a superb job of never mentioning the victim's name. It was almost unnoticeable. That is the sign of a great author, a great storyteller.

The later-identified-man-of-27 was assaulted mentally, psychologically, and somewhat physically in a small elevator inside of a train station. He was one his way up the elevator, as he often did, to take care of his business. Two men, Demetrius Thomas and Terrell Jones, followed him. When they took his cellphone and wallet, it was literally, to them, like stealing candy from a baby.

The men walked out after assaulting the victim, then the victim notified the authorities at the station. they were found, and brought into custody.

While I'd like to say that it's unbelievable that someone would steal from another person in the first place, it is not. It happens all the time. It happens everyday.  I do not have any statistical evidence, nor do I need any. It is obvious.

It is also infuriating to think that someone would simply take someone else's things. You do not why someone has what they do (be it a physical thing, inanimate object, or something in their spirit), where they got it from, why they got it, what they intend to do with it later, and why they got it. It is not yours to have.

In this case, the man had the cell phone and money. He got these items from his mother (most likely, there is no complete indication that this is true; it can be assumed for now).  Obviously the phone was for calls and the money for purchases. There is a very important reason for this man to have these on him: in case of emergency.

  This man had cerebral palsy.

  1. People are awful, inconsiderate, and selfish. This is why one can never judge anyone ever, because one can never know anyone fully.

  2. This is absolutely horrible. It shows the lack in morals that, unfortunately, many many people have. I will never understand how people can steal, especially from people who have no means of fighting back. Furthermore, I will never understand how anyone can steal something from someone, then have the nerve to use it for their own benefit (using someone elses credit card, money, etc).
