New York Department Store Race Issues Jack Mckay

Summary: Four instances of racial profiling have been reported at a Barney's in New York. All four times, the purchaser was stopped by NYPD after leaving the store was asked questions such as where they got the money from and to show the receipt to prove the items in the bag matched what they bought. When questioned, the NYPD would say nothing other than that the police were simply doing their job. A few describe the police searches as attack like and over forceful. One case has led to a law suite fine of 5 million dollars.

Analysis: Racism is no new issue in this country. Stories of racism are told to us from childhood and one should realize if they are racist because its pretty obvious to figure out. If you know you have problems dealing with people of other races, be smart enough to not take a job of authority and if that is your goal, then you will get caught. New York is supposed to be a place of tolerance considering its one of the biggest cities in the world and famous for its art and culture but racial profiling could happen any where. If we are expected to develop as a country and modernize, we cannot do so if we cant except others. Its not just race but also gender roles, sexuality, and religion that need to be excepted.
