Nevada school shooting: Teacher killed, two students wounded Ilana Lemack 4th

A student opened fire on Monday, October 21, with a handgun he took from his parents. Mike Landsberry, a popular math teacher at the school, was killed in the shooting while was trying to help. Two students were also wounded. The whole shooting lasted just a couple of minutes. The scene of the shooting was at Sparks Middle School in Nevada. The gunman eventually shot and killed himself with the semiautomatic gun. Authorities said the shooter's motive was unclear, it is too early to tell whether or not he was going atfer specific people or just on a shooting spree. City officials said authorities received calls from students and staff at the school about 7:15 a.m. about a shooter on campus. Authorities said students were taken to a nearby high school to meet their parents and school has been canceled for the week at Sparks Middle School as well as a near by elementary school.

I think this really hits home for a lot of people in the United States because it is so close to the one year anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. This is just another reminder that we have yet to improve school security systems. How many more school shootings are going to happen before someone does something about it!? This could be us! We go to school in Downtown Dallas, that's wayy sketchier than a small town like Newtown or a small city outside Reno, Nevada. Something really needs to be done. These little metal detectors we walk through everyday are not nearly enough to keep out someone who really wants to cause harm. Action needs to be taken around the country before it is too late like these poor kids and teachers in Nevada and Connecticut.

  1. It's so unfortunate that something like this happen. Even though it's sad that the teacher was killed, it's good that no one else died from the shooting. I agree with what you're saying about our security coming into school-I think something safer needs to be put into effect to make sure nothing bad happens at Booker T.
