The Removal of Transgender Rights has Begun- Isabella Firsching

The FRC (Family Research Council) is an evangelical christian anti-LGBT hate group that, 2 years ago created a road map on how to wipe the transgender population from existence. Members of this organization often pray in the Oval Office, and are rather close to the current president Donald Trump. The FRC’s 5 step plan consists of 5 key points, States and federal government should not allow legal gender marker changes, transgender people should not have any legal protections against discrimination, nor should anyone be forced to respect their identity, transgender people should not be legally allowed in accordance to their gender identity, medical coverage related to transition should not be provided by the government or any other entity, and finally, transgender people should not be allowed to serve in the military. Many actions recent actions, nominations, or proposals by the U.S. Government have been traced back to this list. Such as, the appointment of 6 anti-transgender extremists by the TA, who oppose transition related healthcare, to hold the main seats at Health and Human services. Section 1557 of The Affordable Care Act has been reversed, and the TA has ordered that all medical care for Transgender service members stop. Step 5 of this process is by far the most publicized and widely known attempt on the rights of transgender individuals, or the sending of an official order to the pentagon ordering the cease of all medical treatment, as well as the forced removal of current Transgender service-members and the ban on any new Transgender individuals joining the military.
The article also compared the removal of trans persons from the military to the forced removal of Jewish troops in Nazi Germany. This article is important because it sheds light on the modern discrimination of trans minorities, and the potential of future progression of discrimination. I had very little prior knowledge of this subject, only copies of the original military ban tweet and small snipits shared through social media, reading this article provides information that could greatly effect this generation and could serve as a warning for the near future.

  1. What sticks out the most to me is the fact that they don't want any transgendered people to have leagal protections against discrimination. This basically goes completely against the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Do you think President Trump's general behavior or world view have to do with the rising amount of extremist hate groups like this one?

  2. It still boggles my mind on how people feel the need to impose their views on others to the point of violent discrimination. They have done no harm to the people around them as well as having done no harm to themselves.

  3. It's so shocking to me that a select few people are able to impose their views on the rest of the nation. How others can be denied basic human rights is beyond me.

  4. I got in a bit of an argument about trans folk in another thread, and it turns out it seems a lot of people don't know about transgender and transsexual people, either willing to learn more or just generally see them as freaks who don't deserve rights to be treated as their preferred gender.

  5. It is alarming because just as you said, I didn't have much prior knowledge to the situation. It is surprising that the FRC doesn't get as much attention as it sounds that it should. My question to you is, do you think the current administration is to blame for the influence of the FRC and should we hold them responsible to denounce this?

  6. Denying basic human rights goes completely against what this country should stand for. Life, liberty, and the persuit of happiness should be guaranteed TO ALL.

  7. That is shocking. Denial of even the few basic rights is like denying the general motto of what this country stood for. Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. I mean I honestly didn't know that this stuff was going down. What's next? The complete annihilation of all basic human rights?

  8. Liam Wise- I had no idea what insidious organization was behind THIS very prejudice like of thought in Trump's head. It seems like a lot of our president's actions are influenced by outside sources, unfortunately. It's important to be able to make your own, level-headed decisions in such a high office. It's disgraceful to see the man holding the most prestigious position in our government just not care enough.

It shocks me everyday see how close minded a select few in our nation can be. America was built on the idea that people could be whoever they wanted to be without fear of persecution. It's appalling to see the hate harbored deep within. Being transgender doesn't make someone less of a person, nor should it diminish their rights. As Americans we are supposed to have the right to believe what we want and be who we are. We claim to be a land of equal opportunity, but we can often lose sight of that. We shouldn't be trying to conform people to a certain "standard" or belief, we should embrace one another with open arms, because at the end of the day we're all people. People with feelings, hearts, lives, and families. Why should being transgender affect that? Why are people often so afraid of things they don't understand? We all have a right to happiness.

  10. Julia Hunt- At this point, I'm not even surprised anymore. All he does is push against basic human rights and acts as if it is a great thing that he's doing. He's not even seeing them as people with motivations and people they want to protect.

I can't wrap my mind around the idea that people cannot understand that not everybody is going to have the same ideas. Respect and understandment is what it takes. Transgender people aren't doing harm to our society, honestly they are adding diversity and empower to our communities.

  12. After reading about the other things that Trump's planning on doing as well as this, it gets harder for me to understand just where he's planning on leading this country to. The U.S is known for its diversity and rights that allow people to express themselves, why take that away?

  15. Its really sad to me that the world has come to this.. people came to america because it was a dream world... now people cant be who they are is very sad. every single person should have all the same rights!!!!

  16. I hate how people don't realize we all have the same skeleton inside our body and we are all going to die someday so why does it matter what our sexual orientation, race,or gender is.

  17. The primary reason why immigrants come to America is for liberty and freedom, so eliminating transgender rights not only negatively impacts this nation's notorious reputation of being a free country, but also demonstrates a strong example of how the increased acceptance of diversity in sexual orientation/gender is still being argued against today.

  18. Now in his term, it makes me sick how people continuously act surprised at every single thing he does like he didn’t do it times before. He is definitely abusing his power to harm others and NO president should be ABLE to do that or even think it’s ok to do that. Him being our president is like him being a small childish 6 year old and us being the naive first time parent thinking “oh he won’t go that far”, “next time he’ll do better”. NO!! We have to put our foot down and show him that we’re not the ones to mess with.

  19. It's sad these types of things that are happening aren't even surprising anymore. So many people refuse to be even the slightest bit open minded and just automatically hate what they can't understand. It's so gross that there's still such hate and bigotry alive today. No matter what you identify as, your sexuality is, what race your race is, if you're trans or not, we're all still human, and no one deserves to be stripped of basic human rights or other privileges because of it.

  20. It almost feels as if history is repeating itself. Separating one group and then taking away their basic human rights. No matter what race, religion, or sex. We ALL deserve equal rights.

  21. Pretty sad to see that kind of bigotry in the White House and from an organization of religious foundation. The forcing of physical "norms" seems somewhat similar to the forcing of ideological "norms" upon Spanish Jews and other religious groups by radical Catholics during the Spanish Inquisition.

  22. Land of the free my a$$. This article and your analysis just emphasizes on how America is viewed as a completely free country where anyone can do anything, yet transgender people are not allowed in the military. Equality in America seems to have reached a new low in the 21st century with trans hate within the government.

  23. I feel like Transgender should be treated like everyone else. They are still human beings. Trump is so hateful like he is not president.
