North Korea's plans are actually very clear. It's far less obvious what Donald Trump will do - Ian Alexander

Summary:
After N Korea claimed to have tested a thermonuclear device Sunday, Trump and the rest of Washington, China, and the U.N. are having to come up with a new way to handle Kim Jong-un.  Trump has talked about putting sanctions on anyone who deals with N Korea, but that could cause a trade war with a country that we do close to $580 billion worth of business.  The U.S. has many military options, but none of them will turn out well.  The only other option is to get N Korea back to the negotiating table.

Analysis:
The article is showing how complicated this situation is.  None of our options are good, to include the negotiation one.  Even that option isn't a guarantee.  Back in 1953, the Korean Armistice Agreement was signed, which put the Korean war on "hold" until a "final peaceful settlement" was achieved.  If Kim Jung-un doesn't care about honoring that, He most likely won't honor any new agreement.  It's anyone's guess what Trump will do.  I'm just glad I don't have to make that decision.

  1. Umm. I didn't really get what North Korea's plans were, but yes there is a tense issue between the US and North Korea right now. Probably the highest since the end of the Korean War. But think about it. Has Kim-Jong Un ever really give a crap about negotiations? He continues to test his nuclear arsenal even without the consent of Russia and China, North Korea's only allies.

    1. Okay maybe not the only allies North Korea has. The comment deleted is the same comment as the one in here.

  3. President Trump has been calling on China to do more to "control their neighbor". This seems to put China in a bind. If China cuts off trade and fuel to North Korea, it would weaken their position by strengthening South Korea, which is a US ally.

  4. I honestly have no idea how he'll deal with North Korea. One minute, he (along with a lot of Americans) just laugh it off because it's North Korea, and so many people just laugh their threats off, and have been for years now. But at what point do we stop laughing this off and realize how drastic the situation can very easily become, especially when it comes to the way Trump and Kim Jung-Un act.

    1. That's a good point. It's hard to take life seriously sometimes but when you have huge, history-altering decision to make, that is something that you just cannot do. If everybody always laughs at things that are this serious, nothing will happen and no progress will be made to terminate the issue.
