Hurricane Irma destroyed islands in the Caribbean all last week, and now it slams in to Florida. Water levels are rapidly rising and has maximum wind speeds of 110 mph. Areas that aren't even a direct hit of the hurricane are experiencing flooding. The high speed winds are threatening and are more dangerous than increasing water levels in the streets. Hurricane Irma is a life threatening situation and Florida is expecting up to ten to fifteen feet of inundation. Many Floridans were rushing to evacuate last week, but the ones who have to stay are holed up with stockpiles of water, canned food and battery power. The gusts of wind knocked out power for 750,000 people in Miami. Flying objects such as coconuts are dangerous projectiles, and at least two construction cranes collapsed. Mass evacuations jammed highways in Florida and caused gas shortages. This is the time in America where there are two category four hurricanes in the same year.
Hurricane Irma is a serious threat to the people in the Caribbean Islands and in Florida. This article was written to inform us on the effects of Irma. The article gives off a negative effect on the reader because it is a horrible tragedy and is very dangerous. The time of this hurricane is significant because Hurricane Harvey was just last week, and this is the first time in American history that these category 4 hurricanes are occurring in the same year. Hurricane Irma will be apart of United States history because it is affecting the people of our country and will take years to rebuild and get through the aftermath.
Its crazy that two high category hurricanes hit within the same season. I think there needs to be efforts by everyone to help rebuild the damage.
