Hurricane Irma went inland on Monday, record flooding in Florida. Rescuers prepared to search for victims learning the full extent of the damage done; engulfing most of Florida's peninsula. Swamping homes, flooding streets, hurling boats ashore, and destroying miles of power lines. About 6.2 million homes and businesses remained without power, and 220,000 people in shelter homes. The full extent of the damage statewide remained unclear with communications cut off by the wind and flooding. Many search crews planned to go door to door to check on residents who stayed behind in their homes waiting for the storm to hit. Hurricane Irma not only hit Florida but also caused the near by states some damage. Irma pushed into Georgia causing a tornado also expected to push into Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. More than 120 homes were evacuated early Monday as the flood waters started pouring into Orlando. Firefighters evacuating families to safety. A few miles away about 30 others had to evacuate when a sinkhole of about 60 feet opened up under and apartment building, no injuries were reported.
In 2006 Hurricane Loke or Typhoon Loke was recorded to be the most intense hurricane in the central Pacific. Traveled for 17 days through the Pacific reaching a Category 5 status on three different occasions. For the first time ever in Atlanta, school was canceled in communities around the state. Now people are constantly asking: Should the government priorities helping the people restore Huston, Texas after Hurricane Harvey or the people of Florida after Hurricane Irma caused so much damage? Personally I fell that, in a situation like this one, where there are two crises, it is difficult for the government to prioritize just one recovery process. Therefore, I think that the government shouldn't dedicate more assets to one state, but should try to provide relief to all people affected by the storms, especially those without basic necessities like food and clean water.

ReplyDeleteIt's so sad to that we have to pick who needs help the most, hoping that things clear up soon!!
ReplyDeleteI agree that the government should be providing relief for all people effected by the storms. Although, that will take a lot of time and money, they are capable. Its so sad to think that only some are receiving the necessary supplies.
