Current Events: Climate Change
Changes in our planet’s atmosphere did not cause hurricane Harvey or Irma, contrary to popular belief, although scientists have agreed that rising sea levels and warmer oceans have made the storms much worse than they would have been a century ago.  Hurricanes thrive over warm water and the seas’ temperature has risen about 3 degrees in the past century. There has also been about 7 inches of water added to the sea level which definitely could have contributed to the power of the storm. When president Trump was asked if these storms shifted his views on climate change, he claimed “we’ve had bigger storms than this”, and he still believes climate change is a hoax.

Its surprising that the U.S. is such a huge world leader, but it is one of the very few countries that did not go along with the Paris Agreement. The Paris Agreement was signed to reduce emissions to control climate change to prevent natural disasters, and worse. Donald Trump has been saying some very contradicting things because he was gushing over Harvey and Irma, yet his beliefs on climate change won't budge. I hope these next three years go by quickly so we can have someone in office who will actually benefit our country and our world.

  1. It's surprising how people still do not believe that we cause natural disasters. By continuing to burn fossil fuels, we are killing our planet.

  2. I feel like climate change is a real issue, and I think our president didn't make the wisest choice in not agreeing to the Paris Agreement, as I think our world will be polluted if we don't take care of it.

  3. I agree. Our world with its fuels and emissions are just building up the magnitude of climate change and we have the ability to reduce it. People just need to realize that what we are putting out into the atmosphere is actually harming us in a way.
