Hurricane Irma- Sanaya Gangal

Summary of Article(s):
     Another severe hurricane has struck and is once again destroying large portions of property and affecting a numerous amount of lives. Quite recently, Hurricane Harvey came crashing down in the city of Houston, Texas damaging homes, schools, and other important premises. While the people in Houston are still suffering through the loses that the hurricane has caused them, Hurricane Irma, another hazardous storm, has made a similarly frightening appearance in Jacksonville, Florida, the coastal areas of Georgia, and certain parts of South Carolina.
     So far, South Florida, has been engulfed by a substantial amount of winds and rain resulting in destructive floods that are "turning streets into churning rivers...". This new storm has produced at least ten to twenty inches of non-stop rain forcing water upstream on the river creating a "trifecta affect". Because of this, many people have lost parts of their homes due to trees crashing down on them and potentially harming those inside.  While the people in Florida have been experiencing this rough weather, luckily many were rescued by the Clay County Crew.
      In addition to more news about this storm, Charleston, South Carolina, and Savannah Georgia are also experiencing flooding due to the onshore winds being pushed back into rivers. Hurricane Irma flooded portions of Savannah's River Street and downtown Charleston causing residents living in downtown to be in danger. With these alarming weather cases, people are suffering; more are going to experience this abundance of damage to places, and more are going to need help.

Analysis of Articles(s):
     After hearing the news and researching about this topic, I personally feel that people should donate as much money as they can to help out the families experiencing this event. Similarly, the author who wrote these articles are not only informing the public about this frightening incident but is also trying to convince others to help out those in need.

     Back in the colonial times, when traveling by ship was an important transportation tool, there wasn't any technology or any sort of climate readings that could predict what the weather would be like. Luckily, in this time period, we have the accessibility to predict how the weather is and how severe it can get. This is a major difference from back then because people are now more aware of what to expect and how to react when a hurricane like Harvey or Irma hits.

  1. As a country we are still trying to heal, and Irma hasn't helped us at all it has just created more devastation and loss to many Americans and others. It is also not good to live by a river with Irma still around and people who do live close to the storm need to evacuate NOW.

  2. These hurricanes have been horrific. If there is any silver lining to these tragedies, people are coming together to help each other. The outpouring of money, resources and help that has been given is a hopeful sign that our world is not such a bad place.
