How pets were saved during the hurricane- Noah Huerta

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/animalia/wp/2017/08/31/how-the-chaos-of-hurricane-katrina-helped-save-pets-from-flooding-in-texas/?utm_term=.eb9c5d7611c5

Apparently during the crisis of Hurricane Katrina on New Orleans, 100,000 pets were left behind and an estimated 70,000 died.
This was followed by an outrage by "everyone" since not many people could include pets into their emergency evacuation centers. People had to stay behind if they wanted to take care of their animals.
Eventually enough animal rights activist groups and other people pushed for congress to require federal funds for pet-friendly emergency centers in 2006.
And that's what helped enough families stay protected entirely, this recent event crisis.

  1. I have two dogs and I was happy to see that some organizations from N TX were going down to Houston to rescue the animals. Pet food was also added to a lot of the list of things needed.

  2. I also have animals, and if something horrible happened like that, I want to know that my animal would be safe. We should support animal rescue organizations so that we know we aren't just saving humans life, but also animal life.

  4. Its good that animals are being saved after this huge storm. But the only con about this situation is that the original families may never see there ol' friend again.

  5. I love my dog so much, and I do not know how I would react to someone telling me that if I want to be saved I need to leave her behind to fend for herself. I am so sad to hear how many pets were abandoned, and how many pets lost their lives. I am a huge animal lover, and I am relieved to hear that animals were being rescued.
