On Thursday, a large part of Mexico experienced an 8.1 magnitude earthquake. An estimated 50 million people felt the quake, and the death toll has reached 90 and still rising. Due to the time of the earthquake, many were asleep when it started but they were still able to experience at least 6 aftershocks reaching a 5.0 magnitude. As if the earthquake and its aftershocks weren't enough, a tsunami formed with waves coming into Mexico at 5.8 feet high. Many have wondered what caused such a large earthquake, and the answer is, Hurricane Katia. Katia struck Mexico earlier this week as a category 1 hurricane leaving her mark in eastern Mexico. Mexico is remaining strong after experiencing so many natural disasters all at once.
I can't believe everything that is happening in our world right now. I have never seen so many natural disasters all piled on top of each other. Wild fires across the western United States, Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Katia, tsunamis, earthquakes, Hurricane Irma, and the tornadoes hitting Florida as a result of Irma. It is hard to imagine what the residents of the affected places are going through, and everyone impacted is in my thoughts. I can connect the earthquake and Katia in Mexico to Irma and the tornadoes in Florida. Both places are experiencing cause and effect weather; Katia caused the earthquake and tsunami, and Irma caused 6 tornadoes to touch down in Florida in about an hour time.

It is devastating that so many people are experiencing these disasters. I hope the recovery processes fly by and will be done before we know it.
ReplyDeleteIt's so weird that all of these natural disasters are happening all around the same time. I'm very grateful that we aren't going through what all of these poor people are going through.
ReplyDeleteIts totally crazy how everything's happening at once. i'm glad so many people are eager to help and hopefully this will all be over soon.
DeleteI know you and me both have a special place for Mexico and our hearts and I hope they are able to recover quickly from everything that has happened back to back. The amount of natural disasters that have affected the majority of the United States is shocking, especially because they have all been of a high magnitude.
