DACA decision coming soon- Melanie Escalante - p2

Summary: For those of you who don't know, DACA stands for deferrred action for childhood arrivals, which was founded by the Obama administration 5 years ago. The policy allows for people who were brought to the United States as children, who had no say in where they go, to not be sent back to a country they hardly know (deportation) and allows them to find work in the United States. Whether DACA ceases to exist or not depends on President Trump. He has announced that the decision will be made on Tuesday and an anonymous source has said that Trump is still not sure about how to proceed.

Synthesis: When I think of DACA I  think of young people in school or at work trying to be successful. When I think of young people being held back from success I think of segregation in the early 1900s. By separating people just because they're different, you're holding them back from growing and adapting. The white people in the 1900s had more privileges than black people- black people were being held back in many ways. In this case, the United States has many opportunities compared to some other countries. By kicking people out of this country, you're taking these opportunities away from them.

Analysis: I think diversity is needed in every country. We live in a big world so why wouldn't we want to experience and see all that we can? If people weren't supposed to connect and share then we wouldn't be on the same planet. Everyone knows that as a child your parents make the decisions and there's not much you can do to go against them. I don't think child immigrants should be punished for something that wasn't in their control. You have to put every single person in that position despite the color of their skin because in some way we're all the same. Everyone is capable of being successful and bringing change but if that's taken away then we'll be losing potential greatness.
