Jeson Aviles - After Denver Hired Homeless People to Perform Day Labor For the City, More Than 100 Landed Regular Jobs

Over the course of last year, 284 people have participated in a program launched by the Denver government that presented the homeless people of the city with the opportunity to work for it, and be paid. As a result, 110 of the participants gained long-term jobs. 15 of those individuals were hired by the city. On November 1st, 2016, the program, "Denver Day Works" was launched and paid $12.50 per hour to homeless residents in exchange of 3-6 hour shifts of public service work for the city. Even individuals who didn't possess identification were given help to be able to receive the same experience. Financial planning services were offered to them by the program's administrator at no additional cost after the end of their shifts. Over 10,000 hours of work and $109,000 in wages had been paid to participants of the program. They hope to partner with more state organizations so they'll achieve the opportunities to provide increased amounts of work to women, homeless disabled individuals, and minorities.

In times where minorities and those of lesser opportunity fight for equilibrium, it's amazing and so heartwarming to witness people of higher statuses usse their platforms and positions to help others.
