The Grammy awards this year had a massive drop in ratings. This could be due to a number of things, such as one skit where several musicians and even former presidential candidate Hillary Clinton auditioned to be the narrator for the audiobook version of "Fire and Fury," a book about President Trump's first months in office. This angered many people including Nikki Haley, the US Ambassador to the United Nations, who tweeted "I have always loved the Grammys but to have artists read the Fire and Fury book killed it,". But political controversy was just one part of the problem. Ed Sheeran won in the pop solo category. He beat out 4 women. Afterwards Neil Portnow (the president of the recording academy), said women will win Grammys when they "step up."I think this whole thing is dumb. I don't think the Grammy awards should be sexist and political. People watch the Grammys to see music they love win awards. This makes me very disappointed.

Music should be something that brings people together, not tear them apart.
ReplyDeleteI don't think that the grammys should be filled with political and gender bias, it should give awards to the musicians who deserve them the most. To bring politics into the live show shows how the country is being torn apart by politics, which really seems to take away people's humanity. All we see is red and blue, conservative and liberal, Republican and Democrat, when we should just see people, and in the grammy's case, award winning artists.

ReplyDeleteI had an issue with the Grammys bringing politics into an award show, this award show is meant to honor amazing, upcoming, and creative artists not to discuss political opinions and beliefs. The Grammys overall had its ups and it's down, more ups than down so to speak.
