Henry Haas- Solar Panels and.. Washing Machines?

Recently President Trump used a authorized trade law that hadn’t been put into action since Bush and placed two tariffs on appliances. Solar Panels and Washing Machines. Both of these were in response to businesses filing major complaints based on their inability to compete with foriegn companies on price. Being a buisnessman himself, Trump used his presidency to aid the companies in question. Well, he tried his best to anyway. In the case of washing machines, Trump actually greatly benefited the industry in America, and sales are estimated to skyrocket in the coming years. It is also believed that the tariff will open up many new jobs in the enthralling field of household appliances. Oooh. This could drop the unemployment rate even lower than it already is at its record setting position, however this is all counteracted by the unfortunate solar panel mishap. The buisness revolving around solar panels was heavily supported by environmentalists who greatly opposed the tariff when it was ratified, somewhat understandably so, and it didn’t help that the tariff was going to show a surprising decrease in jobs over the next two to three years. While it did benifit small buisness and cooperations, the market as a whole will probably suffer from it ultimately. What I believe is important about these decisions is knowing that for the first time in years we have a president interested in keeping American businesses on top, whether it works or not, well maybe he’ll get better as time goes on. President Trump has plans to make more aggressive trade deals on Friday at a meeting in Switzerland, so we could either see more benifits or some disjoint in the coming weeks. Hopefully this buisnesman knows what he’s doing when it comes to the largest debt in the world. Good luck Donny boy.

  1. I agree that this tariff is not good for the economy overall, since both washing machines and solar powers are used widely in businesses around the country.

    1. I agree that the solar panel teriff may not be beneficial in the long run, however I do think that his ideas come from a solid background in buisness and it’s important to know that he had the companies best interests in mind.

  2. I agree with you that because America elected a business man to the presidency he should show complete competency in making trade deals.
