Nancy Reagan dead at 94 - Erin O'Day

Former first lady Nancy Reagan passed away today from congestive heart failure. This article recalls her legacy. She started out as an actor in Hollywood where she met her future husband, Ronald Reagan, who was also an actor, and they got married in 1952, and she followed her husband as he went into politics. As the first lady, she was known for her "Just say no to drugs" campaign and also for being a "fierce protector" of her husband. She never left his side in the hospital after an attempt on his life. Her counsel to her husband is said by many to have been instrumental to his presidency as well. Even after Ronald Reagan passed in 2004, she remained in the public eye and still was a political activist.

Ronald Reagan used to be a registered Democrat and a supporter of the New Deal, but he ran for president as a conservative Republican and served two terms. This reminds me of how today Donald Trump used to be a Democrat as well, but now he is running as a Republican.

(Please don't get the idea that I'm bashing Reagan with this comparison. I'm not, I like Reagan. I'm just trying to get my synthesis in lol)

  1. It's always sad when such a positively influential role model passes away, but it seems like she had a full life. And nice synthesis...promise no judgment :)
