Woman found dead in an elevator

http://www.cnn.com/2016/03/06/asia/china-elevator-death/index.html

On January 30th, in China, an elevator stopped working between the 10th and 11th floor.  Workers at the residential business then called down from the 11th floor to see if anyone was in the elevator. They heard no response back, so they cut off the power supply.  Now a daily newspaper in China is reporting a woman being found dead in the elevator.  The woman was 43 years old and has possibly been stuck in the elevator for a month.  The maintenance crew didn't show up until March 1 to fix the elevator and that was when the woman was found.  They are figuring that she died more than 30 days ago.  Both the maintenance and residential companies have been charged.
Although this incident doesn't directly relate to the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory it reminds me of it. The tragedy at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory led to changes in building codes for factories.  I don't understand how this incident could have happened with building codes.  Shouldn't the residential business have taken more precautions to see if anyone was stuck, besides just yelling from the top floor?  Also why did it take a month for the maintenance company to show up?  I think the residential building should get inspected for safety.

  2. How terrifying. I'm so sad for her and her family, but it doesn't make sense. I wonder if she was reported missing for that month.

  3. It is very sad that they didn't take any more precautions to check if people were still inside the elevator, and didn't get maintenance until March.
