Indonesia Intends to Restrict LGBT Rights by Shelby Linker, 8th period

Indonesian lawmakers are discussing about whether or not to draft a legislation to restrict LGBT rights. Deputy chairman of the assembly's committee on religious and cultural affairs, Deding Ishak, stated that he would like to see the legislation "prevent and protect society from the massive propaganda launched by the LGBT community."

It annoys me that Ishak believes that LGBT is a threat to the society that he's used to. It's not as though by allowing them to be treated fairly it will mess everything up. Equality and acceptance isn't hard to understand yet we as a society have such a hard time doing both of these things. The reminds me of the uproar but also much of the support when Obama passed the LGBT bill.

  1. LGBT people are severely unrepresented on an international level. Homosexuality is still punishable by death in many countries and there are still laws being passed in the US to restrict LGBT rights. This just reminds me how lucky I am to live in such an accepting community.
