Climate Change and Food Supplies- Nicole Chatham 6th period 2/28/16

This week I read an article that talked about climate change and the future of our food products and health! Unfortunately the study within the article stated that the effects of climate change on food production could cause approximately 500,000 extra deaths by 2050. This is crazy news along with the other claim that if greenhouse gas emissions continue at the rate they are going, projected increases in food availability will be cut by 1/3 before mid-century. Fruit and vegetables within diets will decline with climate change and the reduction in food harvested will lead to higher food prices and reduced consumption according to the study. Even if nations around the world succeed in keeping the temperature rise to only 2C (3.6 F), there could still be another 150,000 climate related deaths.

Analysis- This article is very alarming!! Earth is changing around us quickly and it's so important to take caution as to what's going on and be preventive in order to avoid further harm to this planet. This article reminds me of the Pure Food and Drug Act back in U.S. history and how much attention Upton Sinclair brought to the matter of improper food conditions. Like this article, the Pure Food and Drug Act effected many citizens in regard to what they ate and Upton Sinclair provided many of new knowledge about what's going on behind the scenes with food through his book "The Jungle". Overall this article is crazy and it's going to be interesting to see how this information will impact our lives in the present and future!
