Alexis Farrell, 5th Period: Flowers left at Reagan Library following first lady's death

94-year-old Nancy Reagan passed away this morning at home in Bel-Air, Los Angeles, CA. The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum were closed today due to her death. However, mourners stopped by to drop flowers off and pay their respects. The article claims that Nancy was "her husband's closet advisor and fierce protector." She was always looking out for him.

This article mentions how Nancy passionately supported Alzheimer's awareness when her husband was diagnosed shortly after his presidency. Her psychologist claims that she "set a model for how we love and care for" people with Alzheimer's. Nancy's devotion and determination reminds me of Dorothea Dix who was an activist on behalf of the mentally "insane." She created institutions across the US and Europe that completely changed people's views of those who suffered mental illness.
