Teen Stowaway- Alexa Almauger 4th Period

Summary:
A 16 year-old sneaked onto a wheel well of a Boeing 767 and was able to survive a five hour flight. The San Jose International Airport has become concerned about what else could sneak in to the airport. Airport officials are worried about something more "sinister" being placed in the wheels if an actual person is able to hide in them. The airport is still investigating, and as for the teen, he has been placed with Child Protective Services.

Analysis:
Overall this situation is very scary and luckily no person that has hid in a wheel has become a threat to the plane. But hiding in a wheel is a threat to themselves. Hopefully airports will better their already strict security systems.

  1. Byron Otis- what a frightening experience! I wonder what his story is. If only they gave more of an explanation. And also, would it be expected for a boy stowaway in a wheel well be expected to die?

  2. Isn't it interesting how all of our preventative measures in airport security haven't actually stopped any occurrences? They only stop events from happening again... rather than stopping them from happening in the first place. I think we need to work on that....

  4. oh wow, it seems impossible to live through something like that... that's remarkable. And how did he get there unnoticed?

  5. I really want to know how the kid did it. Most planes fly at 30,000 feet, and there is a serious lack of oxygen, along with freezing cold temperatures at that height. How did he manage to not fall out? This is a really incredible story.
