Boy suspended for asking Miss America to Prom- Madison Russell

Patrick Farves was suspended for 3 days after asking Miss America to prom during an assembly held at his high school in Pennsylvania.

Miss America, Nina Davuluri, was there to speak about, "the importance of science, technology, engineering and math studies." While she was presenting, Patrick walked up the the stage, plastic flower in hand, and asked her to prom. She took the flower, blushing.

Then Patrick was ushered out of the assembly by school officials who'd told him prior to the event not to go through the the promposal. News of the proposal was passed around in advance, so his peers knew what to expect.

This could be seen as an embarrassment on the school's part, making the school's administration seem out of control or unprofessional. Or this could be seen as a humorous, light hearted memory that will stick in everyone's minds for years to come. I prefer the second.

  1. I agree. I think that it was mainly just humorous and Miss America probably was very flattered by it. I mean, im sure it didn't offend her, since it was a kind gesture. Yes the kid didn't do what the school administrators told him to, but it shouldn't have been as large of an issue as it seems to have been.

  2. I most certainly think this is a situation to take lightly...Its not like she is a big political hot shot...its Miss America...so she should expect little things like this because she is highly admired and is seen as a positive example to anyone....

  3. I don't really see why the boy was suspended for this. Teenagers ask famous people to dances all the time (usually with no consequences) so why is this one different? Yes, I understand that it disturbed the assembly but I think it was a little harsh to suspend him.
