Pregnant Woman Complains of Covering Her Baby Bump at the Gym -Madison Russell

Melissa Mantor is 18 weeks pregnant. While out exercising (her first time since her pregnancy) at Planet Fitness, her former gym, her midriff started to show. There is a rule about bare midriffs, as they violate the gym's dress code.

She was asked to cover with a free complimentary t-shirt by an employee, and despite her slightly protruding midsection, was offended that they gave her a size large. After storming out of the gym, she revoked her membership.

"'What frustrates me the very most about all of this is that it’s really hard to get the motivation, pregnant or not pregnant, just to go to the gym,” says Mantor. The last thing that people want to hear is that their body that they’re trying to take care of is offensive and needs to be covered up.”

Offers have been given for free months at the gym by the franchise owner-- possibly after Ms. Mantor involved the media. She has rejected them temporarily.

Clearly  Ms. Mantor was violating the dress code. It does not appear as though the employee was singling her out. To suggest that seems to be a bit immature, and the claims seem farfetched.

Pregnant or not, the rules were enforced. It is easy to think that to them, money is money. Rules are rules. This is a bit of a waste of time, and seems to be an overreaction.

  1. I personally feel as though she over reacted, they gave her a free shirt, seemed quit polite about it, and she was rude in return. They were just following orders.

  2. Wow. This just sounds like a hormonal pregnant woman on a rampage. Not only was she breaking a published dress code, but I'm sure the man was just trying to be polite and discreet in giving her a FREE t-shirt rather than asking her to leave.
