"For Boston, A New Beginning After A Safe Ending to Its Marathon" (Melissa Kurtzman, 5th Period)

Summary: This year, the Boston Marathon went off without a hitch. Security was amped up and the crowds were bigger than ever as almost one million people turned up to watch 35,000 runners one year after the tragedy that happened at the 2013 Boston Marathon. A moment of silence was held at 2:49 to commemorate the first of the two bombs that went off last year, ultimately killing 3 spectators and wounding hundreds more. The silence only lasted for a few seconds as the crowds started cheering again for the runners that were crossing the finish line at that moment. This year marks the first year in decades that an American has won the marathon. Meb Keflezighi was the first person to cross the finish line with a time of 2:08:36.
Analysis: It's great to hear that nothing bad happened at the Boston Marathon last year. I sincerely applaud all of the first reponders and survivors from last year as well as the runners and safety personal who were there this year. The 2013 bombings were such a tragedy and Boston should be proud that they rallied back so strongly.

  1. This is a triumph for the city of Boston. I remember following this case closely when it first came out, and wondering how the next year's marathon would proceed. It's great that this first year's marathon ended with a new personal best record.
