"Politicians denounce Bundy's racist remarks," Carson Wright, 5th Period

Recently trending is the debacle of Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy's efforts to hold on to land owned by the U.S. government for his own agricultural purposes. For relatively twenty years, Bundy has refused to pay taxes, and has now armed himself and his family with firearms to combat what they see as a government overreach. He has gained many supporters, also with firearms, who have taken to standing his ground with him upon the disputed land.
More controversy was stirred up when Bundy made several racist comments regarding the African-American community and slavery. After driving by a public-housing project in North Las Vegas, Bundy said:

"I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro, and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids--and there is always at least half a dozen people sitting on the porch--they didn't have nothing to do. They didn't have nothing for their kids to do. They didn't have nothing for their young girls to do. And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do? They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I've often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn't get no more freedom. They got less freedom."

In a press conference that occurred after these remarks were made, Bundy reiterated and defended his positions, saying, "I don't think I'm wrong... I think I'm right." Bundy told CNN that he'd spoken "from [his] heart."
In response to the above statements, many conservatives and Republican politicians who had previously backed Bundy's anti-Big Government efforts denounced his views on race and slavery.

Bundy is a fool to begin with; he is breaking the law and even asserts that he doesn't believe in the government of the United States. But these racist remarks of his are truly offensive and ridiculous, and Republican officials, though misguided in their initial support of this old-fashioned rancher, are right to quickly and clearly withdraw their advocacy.
A clear-minded reading of Bundy's statements indicate that he is looking at today with the horrible lens of yesterday. The same can be said of his land-grabbing endeavors.
Surely this latest debacle will be enough to wipe out this clown's social influence and illegal actions.

  1. This is the same man who later said he was just like Rosa Parks, because he is apparently fighting for justice the same way she did. White people really have no scope on what it's like to daily confront racism.
