Carsin Ablon , 1st Period APUSH - The Koch Attack on Solar Energy

Yesterday, on April 26th, 2014, the Kock brothers began acting on a new tax on renewable energy. The Koch brothers, being one of the worlds most powerful and successful conservative businesses in the energy industry, have stated that the potential of solar, wind, and hydro electricity remains one of the carbon energy industries largest threats. Therefore, as an act of the largely right wing Tea Party, the Koch brothers have pushed taxes on owners and users of solar panels. By doing so, the solar panel has become a much less attractive option for those wanting to replace their household's energy supply with a clean, green one. Although the one percent of U.S. households that use solar panels for energy have not experienced a direct effect of the Koch brothers, their deliberate attack on green energy shows little promise for energy independence in America.

Although the Koch brothers have not successfully passed any kind of legislature or act that implements how green energy is regulated, their massive controlling position over the nation's energy and pottential for political effect does pose a threat to the nation's move towards green energy as well as enegy independence. By making the benefits of green energy seem like less by adding useless minor taxes onto regulating and running solar panels, the consumer attraction of moving towards green energy lessens. The attack on green energy by the Koch brothers shows a lack of hope for one of America's largest industries and as carbon fuels diminish, the transfer to green energy needs to occur sooner than later.

  1. I wonder why the Kock brothers would not want to encourage a cleaner way of living rather than imposing a tax on it. Just doesn't make since especially since not many people own solar panels,

  2. This is yet another example of people putting their personal agenda in front of what is the most scrupulous thing to do. Also the Koch brothers were inaccurate in their assertion that solar, wind, hydro electric energy were the greatest threats to carbon based energy; the greatest threat to carbon based energy is the depletion of carbon.
