McKenzie Hartmann - West Nile Vaccine - 4th period

So this article is essentially about a new west nile vaccine that scientists are hoping to have administered by May.  The vaccine, which has thus far been tested on adults 18 through 50 and proved to be innocuous with no lasting effects.  The disease, which first appeared in the United States in 1999 has caused as many as 3 million infections.  There is currently no cure, preventative measures or even proven treatment for an infected person.  Though there are personal measure one can take such as wearing sun screen.  As summer approaches, it is important to be cautious of all the potential dangers this fatal illness could bring.

I think it's great that a vaccine is being developed and is moving forward in the testing process.  This is a really dangerous illness that I think is so often overlooked or belittled.  I have known three people infected and one of them was in a coma for 4 months due to the neurological effects.  The scientists are now performing tests on older members of the community, though if the results continue to remain positive, researchers will have made a huge step forward in combatting this disease.
