3 escape burning Oak Cliff home - Hannah Selby 4th

In the middle of the night yesterday, at about 1:00 a.m., a big fire burned a one-story house in east Oak Cliff to the ground.  At the time of the fire, three adults were in the house playing dominos.  Thankfully they all escaped without injury.  One of the three, Demetria Walker, stated that they evacuated the house without hesitating to do anything else. "I don't even have a pair of shoes right now," she said. "My ID, everything was in there." The victims are being helped by the  American Red Cross for housing for the time being. When investigations were made, they concurred that the fire was caused by an electrical problem - likely from a window air conditioning unit.
I think it's horrible to lose everything you have like that; it must be very hard and take a very long time to get it all back. However, it serves as a reminder that nothing on earth is permanent, and we don't truly "own" anything. We should learn to let go of these things so that we don't become devastated when they disappear, and learn what we should hold onto in this life.
