Connecticut Stabbings by Addison Jordan

Summary: A classmate at a school in Connecticut allegedly killed 16-year-old Maren Sanchez, authorities say. She was described by her family as "a bright light, full of hopes and dreams." Maren died Friday after being slashed in her neck, chest and face at school.

“The alleged assailant, a 16-year-old male classmate, was removed by staff members at Jonathan Law High School in Milford,” local police said.

The incident happened around 7 am in the stairwell of the school, and was witnessed by a staff member. Sanchez suffered "multiple lacerations" and investigators "recovered a knife at the crime scene," police said. The Connecticut Chief Medical Examiner's Office has not officially determined the cause of death, although it appears to be obvious.

School staff members and emergency technicians attempted "life-saving measures,” but Sanchez was pronounced dead at Bridgeport Hospital at 7:43 a.m.

Addressing reporters on Friday, the police chief didn't provide a motive but said investigators are investigating rumors that the boy being accused of the murder was angry because Sanchez had declined to go to the prom with him.  The prom was supposed to be that night, but was cancelled.

Analysis: Some people in this world are cruel for no logical reason. I know that it might be heartbreaking to get rejected for a date, but it’s no reason to kill someone. I think the boy who killed Maren may need some serious mental help, because what he did sounds absolutely crazy. He should get the maximum sentence allowed for this cold blooded murder.  My heart goes out to the victim’s family and friends.

  1. It is really sad to think that all this was possibly due to such a trivial matter. No one deserves to suffer like that, especially over something like that.
