Tymie Jadagu 6th P, 10 years after Katrina

PostPoll: 10 years after Hurricane Katrina, , most say nation is no better prepared - CNNPolitics.com

Summary: This past weeks marks the tenth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. Even after all the widespread damage and trauma it caused, some Americans feel like we are still not ready for another natural disaster. 1,833 died in the hurricane and floods that followed. Many are angry and upset that the Government had such a late reaction, even going as far to call the governments response a "national failure". More non-whites and democrats are more apt to say they are angry.
Analysis: It is both disturbing and infuriating that we still may not be prepared for another disaster. The effects of of Katrina are still wreaking havoc on it's victims today. Our country needs to have have a reliable plan in case something like this should ever happen again. The purpose of history is to learn from our past mistakes, and if we do not learn from Katrina, then we are not taking advantage of history. Especially after the recent flooding in Texas, this is an issue I hold near and dear, and would like to see all states in danger of hurricanes and flooding to have an action plan.

  1. Why do you think they were so unprepared for Hurricane Katrina? This wasn't the biggest storm in all of history, but if definitely was the most devastating.

  3. I think it is very important to take precautions for another natural disaster because the earth is very unpredictable. We really do need to learn from our previous mistakes in history in order to prevent history from repeating itself.

  4. I agree that this is still an issue! Katrina is only one of thousands of horrible natural disasters. I think that everyone in every state should have an action plan in case of an emergency. THOUSANDS of people died. If we don't fix this problem we run a risk of having a hurricane Katrina part 2. -Kennedy Park
