Obama renames mountain, hundreds(??) outraged by Vern Blossfeld

Summary: The highest peak in North America, Mt. Mckinley, was renamed by Obama starting today. It is now named Denali, which is what many native Alaskans already called the 20,000ft natural structure, and what was its original name. This comes as Obama pushes the climate change agenda, but not everyone is happy about the name change. Mckinley was named after the 25th president of the United States, and a lot of people from Mckinley's home state, Ohio, are peeved at Obama for having changed the name back to its original title.
Analysis: In my opinion, the name changing back is a good thing, and anyone arguing against it seems to just want to oppose Obama for the sake of it. The news reporters mentioned that Alaskans have been trying to get the mountain's name changed back to its original name for years, and I think that's their right. After all, the mountain is in their state; if it were in Ohio I could see why Ohioans should have a say in it. But I'm sure there are other things they named after Mckinley in their state, so they should just cool it and accept that things change (back to the way they were, in this case).

  1. I agree with renaming the mountain back to its original name. Also the people in Alaska should have been able to change the name because the mountain is located in their state.

  2. Denali is a better name for the mountain and the people of Alaska got what they wanted for years. I am sad that it happened to be the name of a former president, but he's not alive anymore and I doubt he would want anyone to be breeding contention.

  3. I agree with naming the mountain Denali again. It's Alaska's landmark, so why would Ohioans care if it's named after a president or not? And why would they think they have a say in this matter? They're all the way in Ohio. I understand they want to honor McKinley, who was assassinated in 1901, but he was assassinated in New York, not Alaska.

  4. I also agree with the renaming, as for the people arguing about how it commemorates our 25th president, there are many other ways to remember and many other things to dedicate to him if they feel the need. You shouldn't have to dedicate a mountain to him to remember him as person and president if he is as dear to them as they say he is.

  5. I definitely agree with you, it should be up to the people that actually live there. I saw this conflict on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart where they were showing each groups point of view and the Alaskians justified reasoning for wanting the mountain named Denali. Glad Obama made the descision that he did.
